Community Response to the March Against Genocide: Day 2 Update

“I saw the group and then I heard you were all staying at MY church. I had to stop in and see how I could help.” - UCC Lowell church member

On Thursday, June 26th, 42 community member began their 70+ mile march to Lansing and have received overwhelming support from the community at large.

Donations to the GoFundMe, benefitting Heal Palestine and Playgrounds for Palestine, have doubled the original ask, reaching over $10,000 in solicited donations.

While there have been some detractors, the majority of passersby have been inspired to join and support in whatever way they are able. Volunteers continue to receive donations in kind for those on the march to be fed, sheltered, and cared for.

On Friday, June 27th, the group went live on their Instagram page to alert their following of a negative interaction around Morrison Lake Road, where the 30+ marchers and volunteers were verbally threatened by a nearby resident.

While these interactions are never welcomed, they are anticipated. PSGR and their community affirm their commitment to being peaceful, anti-war and anti-violence in their quest for a Free Palestine.

The group has selected two benefactors from the event: Heal Palestine, who provides life-saving medical care to the children of Palestine whose injuries from bombardment, displacement, and trauma are interconnected and Playgrounds for Palestine, a group who recognizes the right to joy in childhood and works to guarantee Palestinian children can access that.
